RESULTS – 43-MARKER TEST

As this family DNA surname project develops, more information for family member results will be posted. Individuals will not be identified by name to protect privacy; we will use surname, location, and a code.

DNA HERITAGE (43-MARKER) RESULTS

Since this project is just starting, I will share my results so you can have a peek at what you might find. DNA Heritage provides a comprehensive 43-marker test.  The 43-marker test results for myself are below:

Higher resolution (43-marker) tests allows geneticists to infer more detailed views of how Haplogroups are sub-divided into Haplotypes / sub-clades, all the way down to how closely individuals are related (within several generations).

The following diagrams illustrate how Haplogroup I can be exploded into smaller branches or sub-populations:

As more markers are used, ultimately families and branches within families can be identified.  Y-STR markers do not identify individuals, but groups of individuals (men) that share the same or similar Y-chromosome.

Note: DNA testing used for forensics or paternity testing relies on a different type of DNA test called an Autosomal DNA test.  Autosomal DNA markers can identify individuals; these are generally not used for genealogy since distant relations to a specific ancestor cannot be inferred through autosomal DNA testing.

Based on searches in several databases and calculation of genetic distance, the Pearsall and Lindsay families are closely related families (e.g. share a common ancestor within ~50 generations):
