The Pearsall Family DNA – Surname
Project
PEARSALL FAMILY DNA SURNAME PROJECT RESULTS:
May
4, 2008 – On my
father’s birthday, I have the pleasure to announce two new results for
this family project: the seventh Y-DNA test result (from Canada) and eighth Y-DNA test result (from
Australia)
have come in.
Test 7 (Canada):
Y-DNA marker results indicate a very
unique bloodline of haplogroup K2 that originated in Africa.
A Canadian Pearsall who traces his roots to North Carolina, is the first to
establish a genetic benchmark for Pearsalls of Black / African heritage.
Y-DNA marker searches in public databases (ysearch.org and ybase.org)
indicate no matches or close relationships to any other individuals
currently. As other Pearsalls of Black / African heritage participate in
genetic genealogy testing, patterns in marker results may lead to
discovery of new family branches and common ancestry.
Test 8 (Australia):
Y-DNA marker results from an Australian
Pearsall indicate a Y-DNA match with other Pearsalls in the United States,
nearly 9,000 miles away! His Y-DNA belongs to the haplogroup “I1b.”
Australian Pearsalls may trace their paternal line from four male
immigrants that arrived from England between 1803 and
1835, or later English immigration.
American and Australian Pearsall
branches both originated from England. Most American
Pearsalls are descendants of Thomas Pearsall who came to the Virginia
colony in about the 1630s, so a common ancestry with Australia must go
back at least 400-years to England. Also, interestingly, some American
Pearsalls in California may trace their
roots to the Australian branch of the family after immigration from Australia to California in the 1900s. Californian
Pearsalls of Australian ancestry would probably have Y-DNA results
similar to the Australian result below.
Additionally, from the Y-DNA marker
patterns below, we are beginning to see three branches of haplogroup I1b:
tests 1, 2, and 5 are very closely related with identical or almost
identical marker results; test 4 with a difference of two marker values
to the other American Pearsalls a bit further related; and test 8 with
three marker differences slightly more distantly related. All are cousins
between 6 to about 25 generations.
As other Pearsalls from England, Australia, and elsewhere
contribute to this project, additional branches may emerge and confirm
common ancestry.
Thanks to all participants and
contributors!
